Un barco surcoreano está probando una nueva ruta marítima a través del gélido Ártico para transportar mercancías a Europa. Las empresas buscan nuevas rutas marítimas porque las rutas habituales que pasan por Oriente Medio se enfrentan a graves problemas y amenazas para la seguridad.
La ruta del Ártico es mucho más corta, pero los expertos dicen que presenta muchas dificultades importantes. Los barcos solo pueden navegar por allí durante menos de tres meses en verano, cuando se derrite el hielo. Además, necesitan un equipo especial para atravesar el hielo con seguridad, lo que implica un seguro muy caro.
Asimismo, deben obtener permiso oficial de Rusia y recurrir a rompehielos rusos para que les ayuden a pasar. Debido a estos riesgos de seguridad y problemas políticos, la mayoría de las empresas occidentales eligen otra ruta. Parece que esta ruta ártica favorece sobre todo el comercio entre Rusia y China.
