El presidente de la FIFA, Gianni Infantino, ha dejado de lado su plan de vender partes del Mundial a inversores privados con mucho dinero. Ofreció 40 millones de dólares a cada equipo de fútbol para que dijeran que sí, pero la gente de todo el mundo se enfadó muchísimo.

Los dirigentes del fútbol europeo dijeron que boicotearían el Mundial de 2030, por lo que los jugadores famosos no participarían. Otros grupos deportivos de todo el mundo también se pronunciaron en contra de la idea. Infantino dijo más tarde que el plan había provocado demasiadas discusiones en lugar de unir a la gente, así que no se llevará a cabo. Los inversores se retiraron rápidamente del acuerdo. Los expertos creen que esto supone una gran vergüenza para Infantino y le complica mucho su trabajo como líder, porque los aficionados quieren a toda costa mantener el dinero privado fuera del fútbol.
