Groenlandia y la Antártida pierden hielo – nivel 1

Un gran estudio dice que Groenlandia y la Antártida han perdido mucho hielo desde 1979. El agua y el aire cálidos están derritiendo el hielo muy rápido.

Esta pérdida de hielo hace que el nivel del mar suba 3,2 centímetros en todo el mundo. Cuando el nivel del mar sube, provoca grandes inundaciones. Es peligroso para la gente que vive cerca del mar. Cada centímetro de subida del nivel del mar puede inundar millones de hogares.

Los científicos han analizado imágenes de satélite de los últimos cuarenta años. Dicen que, en el pasado, el hielo estaba a salvo. Pero ahora se derrite cada vez más rápido cada año. El nivel del mar seguirá subiendo si el planeta sigue calentándose.
