Los grandes barcos buscan nuevas formas de viajar porque las antiguas rutas por Oriente Medio tienen problemas. Un barco de Corea del Sur está probando una nueva ruta marítima a través del Ártico hasta Europa.
La ruta del Ártico ahorra mucho tiempo porque es más corta. Pero el mar está helado, y los barcos solo pueden navegar por allí en verano durante tres meses. Además, los barcos necesitan la ayuda de rompehielos rusos para abrirse paso entre el hielo.
Debido al hielo, a los altos costes y a los problemas políticos con Rusia, muchas empresas europeas no quieren usar esta ruta tan fría. De momento, esta ruta sirve sobre todo a los barcos que hacen comercio entre Rusia y China.
