Un tribunal de Nuevo México le ha impuesto a Meta una multa enorme de 567 millones de dólares. El juez ha dicho que Meta no garantizó la seguridad de los niños en Facebook e Instagram. El tribunal ha determinado que Meta sabía de los peligros que había en Internet, pero no hizo nada para evitarlos.

Ahora, Meta tiene que pagar casi mil millones de dólares en total por este caso judicial. Parte de ese dinero se destinará a ayudar a los jóvenes que han sufrido daños a causa de las redes sociales. Meta también tiene que cambiar sus normas para proteger a los niños de las herramientas de chat con IA peligrosas. Meta dice que se esfuerza mucho por garantizar la seguridad de los adolescentes y que intentará recurrir la decisión del juez.

Hay quien cree que las multas elevadas son necesarias para obligar a las empresas tecnológicas a proteger a los niños. Otros piensan que los padres y los jóvenes deberían aprender juntos a usar Internet de forma segura, en lugar de promulgar nuevas leyes estrictas.
