Los humanos tenemos diferentes colores de piel porque, en el pasado, la gente vivía en lugares con distintos niveles de luz solar. Cerca del ecuador, donde la luz del sol es muy intensa, la piel oscura protegía el cuerpo de las personas.
Cuando los humanos se trasladaron a lugares con menos sol, la piel oscura dificultaba la producción de suficiente vitamina D. Necesitamos vitamina D para tener huesos fuertes y mantenernos sanos. Con el tiempo, el color de la piel cambió y se volvió más claro para que la gente pudiera producir vitamina D incluso con menos luz solar. Algunas personas también se broncean, lo que significa que su piel se oscurece en verano y se aclara en invierno.
Hoy en día, la gente viaja y vive por todo el mundo. Por eso, algunas personas necesitan proteger su piel del sol, mientras que otras tienen que tomar pastillas extra de vitamina D para mantenerse sanas.
