Los chimpancés rescatados de laboratorios de investigación viven ahora a salvo en un santuario de Liberia.

A muchos los sacaron de su hábitat natural cuando eran crías y vivieron en laboratorios durante muchos años. Hoy en día, viven juntos en grupos en islas donde pueden moverse libremente.

Estos chimpancés de África Occidental están en peligro crítico de extinción porque su población está disminuyendo rápidamente. Los especialistas del santuario les hacen revisiones médicas completas para cuidarlos a medida que envejecen. Los médicos les revisan la sangre, los huesos y los músculos, y les hacen ecografías para asegurarse de que están sanos.

Los chequeos periódicos ayudan al equipo a detectar enfermedades a tiempo y a proporcionar a los chimpancés una buena atención durante el resto de sus vidas.
