El nuevo sistema de pasaporte digital de la UE – nivel 2

La UE ha puesto en marcha un nuevo sistema de entrada digital para los viajeros que vienen de países de fuera de la UE. El sistema usa escáneres faciales y huellas dactilares en lugar de los sellos habituales en el pasaporte.

Los viajeros primero tienen que escanear su pasaporte en una máquina especial y luego hablar con un agente de fronteras.

El nuevo proceso lleva más tiempo que antes. Supone treinta segundos más por persona. Como cada día viajan miles de personas, se están formando colas muy largas en los principales aeropuertos europeos. Algunas personas tienen que esperar hasta cinco horas e incluso llegan a perder sus vuelos.

La situación es complicada porque cada país usa un software diferente, y los viajeros no pueden prepararse por internet antes de llegar a los controles del aeropuerto. A Grecia se le permite actualmente mantener los antiguos controles de pasaportes. Los responsables de los aeropuertos quieren suspender temporalmente el nuevo sistema durante la ajetreada temporada de verano para ayudar a los viajeros.
