La UE investiga a Meta – nivel 3

La Comisión Europea se dispone a intensificar su investigación oficial sobre Meta Platforms, la empresa matriz de Facebook e Instagram.

Según informes recientes, los reguladores de la UE están preparando unas conclusiones preliminares en las que acusan al gigante tecnológico de utilizar prácticas de diseño adictivas con el objetivo específico de mantener a los niños enganchados a sus redes sociales. Esta medida viene tras las acusaciones anteriores de abril, cuando la UE acusó a Meta de incumplir la normativa tecnológica y de no impedir que los menores de 13 años accedieran a sus redes. La Comisión está barajando ahora nuevas restricciones más estrictas para el mes que viene, tras recibir las recomendaciones de un grupo de expertos.

Mientras tanto, Meta se enfrenta a una enorme presión legal a nivel mundial. En EE. UU., la empresa está presionando al Congreso para conseguir inmunidad legal frente a las demandas por daños a los niños, sobre todo después de que una sentencia judicial histórica declarara tanto a Meta como a Google culpables de negligencia al diseñar plataformas perjudiciales para los jóvenes.
