Alemania quiere ampliar su ejército debido a las preocupaciones por la seguridad en Europa. El Gobierno necesita 80 000 nuevos soldados, así que está gastando millones de dólares en anuncios para animar a los jóvenes a alistarse.

Las autoridades han enviado cientos de miles de cartas a adolescentes para comprobar su aptitud física y su interés por combatir. Pero muy pocos jóvenes quieren alistarse en el ejército. Muchos adolescentes dicen que prefieren estudiar y que no quieren luchar por el ejército. Casi 6.000 jóvenes alemanes se han negado oficialmente a alistarse este año, lo que supone un gran aumento respecto a años anteriores. Los estudiantes también están organizando protestas contra los planes del ejército en los colegios y en las calles.

Aunque la mayoría de los adultos apoyan que se invierta dinero en defensa, encontrar suficientes jóvenes dispuestos a alistarse sigue siendo un gran problema para Alemania.
