Una gran inundación en el Gran Cañón – nivel 2

Una gran crecida repentina azotó el Gran Cañón, en Arizona, tras unas fuertes lluvias. Al menos dos personas fallecieron y los helicópteros tuvieron que rescatar a muchos visitantes.

Los expertos dicen que las crecidas ocurren todos los años durante la temporada del monzón de verano. Pero esta crecida fue mucho peor porque un reciente incendio forestal quemó muchos árboles en las colinas. Sin árboles, las fuertes lluvias arrastraron rápidamente barro, rocas y madera hacia el fondo del cañón. La corriente también destrozó una importante tubería que lleva agua potable a los hoteles y a los visitantes.

Los meteorólogos advierten de que las tormentas pueden formarse muy rápidamente en el cañón. Como a menudo no hay cobertura telefónica, los excursionistas deben consultar la previsión meteorológica antes de adentrarse en zonas peligrosas y dirigirse siempre a terrenos elevados cuando llueva con fuerza.
