El Tribunal de Apelación de París ha confirmado la sentencia que declara a la líder de extrema derecha Marine Le Pen culpable de malversación de fondos de la UE, pero le ha rebajado la pena.

La inhabilitación de cinco años para ejercer cargos públicos que le impusieron inicialmente se ha reducido, lo que significa que podrá presentarse legalmente a las elecciones presidenciales francesas de abril de 2027. Sin embargo, el juez también ha decidido que debe permanecer bajo arresto domiciliario durante un año y llevar una tobillera electrónica. Esto plantea un gran problema político: Le Pen ha dicho varias veces que se negará a presentarse si la obligan a llevar la tobillera, y afirma que no se sentiría libre para hacer campaña o reunirse con los votantes con normalidad.

Los expertos políticos sugieren que, si Le Pen decide retirarse debido a esta situación, su joven compañero, Jordan Bardella, probablemente ocupará su lugar como candidato presidencial del partido y pondrá en marcha una estrategia política completamente nueva para las elecciones.
